Yes its a bit of an overused trope in ubi games but i think they at least do a decent job of making it fun and not a chore.

In farcry towers reveal parts of the map and add icons. Thats how the creating from far cry 3 ended up in black flag the tower unlocking map elements ended up in watch dogs etc. Fc3s towers were a little too easy but i thought fc4s were a nice challenge and change of pace.
Ubisofts method of revealing an area on map by climbing a tower is better than just giving off the whole map as it is but revealing small areas tracedexplored by player will make it seem more practical and make exploration more like an essential part of game.
