Your nails can develop beaus lines due to several reasons.
Beaus lines on thumb nails. You may be referring to beaus lines which are grooves that run horizontally across the nail plate. As the nail grows the beaus lines can disappear. These lines are always horizontal and you should not be confused by vertical lines that run from bottom of the nail cuticle to tip.
You might have beaus lines if you have a severe infection such as pneumonia or measles if you are malnourished or progressing diabetes. Beaus lines can be either dark or white in color and normally occur on or under the surface of the nail plate. They usually develop when nail plate growth which begins in the nail matrix located under the cuticle is temporarily disrupted.
If a systemic illness medication or other causative factor is identified this underlying issue should be treated. Some other reasons for these lines include trauma coronary occlusion hypocalcaemia and skin disease. Generally speaking beaus lines can form as a result of diseases that are severe enough that even your nails growth plates are affected so you might want to reflect on your health condition if these lines pop out of nowhere on most of your nails.
This may be caused by an infection or problem in the nail fold where the nail begins to form or it may be caused by an injury to that area. Beaus lines are horizontal transverse depressions in the nail plate that run parallel to the shape of the white moon shaped portion of the nail bed lunula seen at the nails origin. Conditions associated with beaus lines include uncontrolled diabetes and peripheral vascular disease as well as illnesses associated with a high fever such as scarlet fever measles mumps and pneumonia.
The beaus lines themselves represent a transient modification in the nail plate morphology and should grow out with continued production of nail plate. There are several causes of beaus lines. Beaus lines occur at the same spot of the nail plate in most or all of the persons nails and may be caused by any disease severe enough to disrupt normal nail growth figure 6.
It is believed that there is a temporary cessation of cell division in the nail matrix. Beaus lines are indentations that run across the nails. They result from a sudden interruption of nail keratin synthesis and grow distally with the nail plate.
